Yeast Infections Come With Health Risks
Micro organisms live on many different forms of living hosts and the human body is no exception. One of those is a fungus that is limited in growth by good bacteria. The fungus, called Candida Albicans, from the Candida strain, is what can result in a yeast infection if allowed to grow into high numbers. Yeast infections can happen anywhere, as long as it is damp and warm, the mouth is one place, where it is called Thrush, but the most common area is the genitals.
Problems can arise if something attacks or deplete the good bacteria which control the fungus. Without them, the fungus grows unchecked. Several triggers can lead to an imbalance like this such as a diet high in sugar, or taking antibiotics. Antibiotics kill bacteria and though some target specific ‘bad bacteria’ often we are prescribed kinds that just target all bacteria, good and bad. When a genital yeast infection occurs it comes with symptoms like burning, itching and redness. Thrush (Mouth infection) has white patches around the mouth and possibly the throat which hide painful lesions beneath them.
To prevent a yeast infection you need to maintain the balance of your body. If it becomes too acidic it creates more suitable conditions for the fungus to grow in. Making changes to what you consume can affect the acidity and therefore prevent the fungus’ growth. If you do get an infection you should act swiftly to treat it. It will not go away on its own and if ignored can lead to complications, more severe symptoms and even a systemic problem which can cause life threatening issues like leaky gut. A lot of harm can happen if it should get into your blood stream.
Treating a yeast infection means choosing between drug based and natural remedies. Over the counter treatments are effective for some, but they are designed to target the symptoms not the root cause. This means the infection can and probably will happen again. If it returns 4 or more times a year you have now got a recurring yeast infection problem and you should see your doctor.
Avoid foods with yeast, and sugar. Cut out alcohol and refined carbs. Eat more green leafy vegetables, more yogurt that is probiotic and lean proteins like chicken. Raw garlic too is anti fungal and so will help fight the yeast. Avoid milk and cheeses that have fructose and lactose in them. Though the diet can be hard at first it is worth it when you are clear of yeast for good!
